June Lockhart’s 97th birthday just passed on June 25. The actress has had an iconic career, with famous performances on shows like “Lost in Space” and “Lassie.”
She was born on June 25, 1925 and got her start in show business incredibly early. She made an appearance in “A Christmas Carol” with her parents in 1938. After this, she made an appearance on stage, in a play, and since then there has been no turning back in her career. .
Lockhart’s most iconic performances involved her playing a mother. She played Timmy Martin’s mother on the hit show “Lassie.” She did the role true justice and garnered critical acclaim for it.
She once described the show as “a fairy tale about people on a farm where the dog solves all the problems in 22 minutes, just in time for the last commercial.”
Another of her iconic performances came with her role as Dr. Maureen Robinson on “Lost in Space,” which was another hit show. She was the matriarchal figure of the show, taking care of not only the nutritional needs of the family, but also the construction they needed on their travels.
During her time filming the show, she became close with her son from the TV show, played by iconic actor Bill Mumy. Mumy later shared that Lockhart was carrying around a photo of an artist she would never expect; David Bowie!
Other than that, Mumy had other kind words that he wanted to say about the actress. “June is such an interesting character…she is, without a doubt, one of the smartest people I’ve ever met. She is truly a rock & roll goddess. I swear to god. She lives for rock & roll,” Mumy said.
In addition to her iconic roles, there is another reason why June Lockhard will go down in the history books as a true icon. She, she has not one, but two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame! She received one from her for her work in movies and the other for her work on television!
She received them both on the same day, February 8, 1960. In addition to those two stars, NASA also awarded her the Medal for Exceptional Public Achievement to appreciate her efforts in helping the public become more interested in space.
She has had an active career for nearly eight decades. She has played roles on such iconic shows as “Grey’s Anatomy,” “7th Heaven,” and “General Hospital,” among others.
She has two daughters from her marriage to John Maloney. The couple was married for 8 years, from 1951 to 1959. Her daughters Anne Lockhart and Lizabeth Lockhart are actresses.
