Chuck Norris honors mom on 101st birthday — she raised her 3 sons as single mom after dad left

Chuck Norris is perhaps one of the most prolific celebrities of his generation. The 82-year-old made a career in martial arts and acting and is still respected by millions around the world today.

But for Norris, the number one person in his life may always be his mother…

Chuck Norris is a household name due to his many accomplishments in martial arts, the number of belts he holds and his career as an actor. But perhaps the titles he wears most proudly are Loving Son and Loving Husband!

The actor’s mother, Wilma Norris, is someone he has often mentioned for the influence she has had on his life. She has spoken about the immense strength of her character to be able to raise three children as a single mother, at a time when the world wasn’t too kind to single mothers.

Last year for Mother’s Day, the actor paid tribute to both his mother and his wife Gena, to whom he attributed the positive influence they had on his life.

Coincidentally, her mother’s birthday fell on the same day and she turned 100, prompting her son to add, “I love you mom! Happy 100th birthday!”

Chuck has often talked about how his mother is still an active member of the community and someone who prays often! He said she prayed for her career success but it didn’t stop there, “She even prayed for me to find a woman to change my life, and it worked.”

Wilma fought against adverse circumstances to be where she is today. She was born into a poverty-stricken home. Later in life, she struggled but managed to raise her three children on her own as her husband, who was her father, abandoned the family early on.

But even by herself, she managed to raise three knights. Impart knowledge of faith in them and help them become self-reliant so they know that nothing is impossible.

And her belief in her children, and imparting that belief, had a tangible impact as we watched Chuck Norris embark on a hugely successful career in Hollywood as a martial artist.

The actor has always been a family man. He married his wife Gena in 1998 and in 2001 they started a family.

But even alone, he managed to raise three knights. Impart knowledge of faith in them and help them become self-reliant so they know that nothing is impossible.

The actor has always been a family man. He married his wife Gena in 1998 and in 2001 they started a family.

His wife began to show symptoms of arthritis after 10 years of marriage. She was scheduled for an MRI and other tests and treatments, but it backfired. This made her feel unwell, and in order to return to her previous state of health, she needed 24-hour nursing care.

Chuck met the challenge head-on. “My whole life right now is about keeping her alive,” he said.

The family man made sure to focus on his wife’s treatment and stood by his side during her illness, putting his career aside.

In May of this year, the matriarch of the Norris family, Wilma turned 101 years old. Her son Chuck was the first to make a post about it for her mother to honor her life to date. The caption of the post read: “Happy Birthday Mom! 101 years YOUNG! WOW! There are no words to describe how much I love and appreciate you. Thank you for all you have done for us over the many years that God has blessed us together.”

Chuck has always expressed her love for her mother, making sure everyone knows how special she is to him. Her immense love for her comes from her childhood, he once said in an interview, “When I was born, I almost died from complications. When I almost lost my soul in Hollywood a few decades ago, she was at home praying for my success and salvation.”

Wilma Norris did not have an easy life. She grew up in abject poverty so severe that she became a state girl at just eight years old.

He lived in a hospital for two years while undergoing treatment for a rare disease. When she grew up, she met Ray, got married and had three children. Ray was a World War veteran who returned to America with a missing limb and a drinking problem.

His problem with alcohol made it difficult for him to keep a job. He was unable to financially support the family. This prompted Wilma to move her and her three children to Wilson, Oklahoma.

Although this was the era of the Great Depression, Chuck has often shared with fans how his mother’s faith never wavered and he made sure to always believe that things would be better.

The actor said of her mother: “Mom has been an example of perseverance and faith her entire life. She also endured the deaths of her two husbands, a stepson, two grandchildren, and my younger brother, Wieland, in the Vietnam War. She has had cancer repeatedly and has had about 30 different surgeries for various issues, but she is still here to tell the tale.”

In 2012, Wilma made a rare appearance on The Mike Huckabee Show to talk about her life and her family. As for what made her parenting successful, she said that she observed prayer time regularly with her children and made sure they all attended church regularly.

She advised young parents: “Give them lots of love. Take them to church and Sunday school. But you see that God did not give us our children. He only loaned them to us for a while.”

Wilma Norris is indeed an inspiration. Even at 101, the Norris family matriarch is still going strong.
