Winnie Hung started sending fan letters to Christian celebrity Willie Aames, the popular 1980s actor, when she was a child. Her letters continued for more than 30 years and now the two are married. This is a love story so amazing, she’s getting her own movie on the Hallmark Channel!
When Willie first met Winnie Hung, it was love at first sight. He felt as if he had known her all his life. And it all started with a letter.
Willie Aames, actor of Eight is enough
Willie Aames had roles on several television shows: Gunsmoke, Adam-12, Eight is Enough, and Charles In Charge. And Winnie had been a fan of Willie’s for years. So, on a whim, she wrote him a letter and Willie responded by calling her.

At first, Winnie hung up on her because she couldn’t believe that she was actually her favorite actor, Willie Aames!
“I was like, ‘Hello, is this the Hung residence?’ And she was like, ‘Yeah.’ And I said, ‘Hello, this is Willie Aames calling from Universal Studios. She hung up. I called him back and he was like, ‘It can’t be you,'” he recalled. “We started chatting and became pen pals for 30 years. course, we caught up and lost our way”.
For the next few years, the couple remained good friends until actor Willie Aames found himself hitting rock bottom. He lost his job, struggled with sobriety and found his identity. At one point, he too was homeless.
“When I started my life all over again at 48, I had to learn everything all over again. I had to learn who I was again. I had to get over all the mistakes of the past,” he said. He eventually found work as a cruise ship manager, and that’s when he first met Winnie.
Long-time pen pals finally meet
The couple decided to meet in person during a cruise stop in Vancouver. Neither of them knew that their lives would change for the better and that God was bringing them together.
“That afternoon, I looked at her and I knew,” Willie recalled. “There’s no way to avoid it. That afternoon I went and bought Winnie a little Pandora charm that says “Fairy Tale.” That was one of the things I told her because she was so determined to go out with me that I told her, ‘Don’t miss your own real-life fairy tale.'”

Winnie was reluctant at first, but she soon realized that God had intended them to be husband and wife.
“I feel like everything went right at the right time, like it was supposed to,” she said. “So when we met in person, I already trusted him as a human being.”
After his first date, actor Wilie Aames couldn’t get Winnie out of his heart or mind. So he knew what he had to do. He had to see her again. “I flew back to Canada, and when I went through immigration, she was standing there, I went up to her and said, ‘I’m going to marry you.
After gaining approval from Winnie’s family, Wilie asked to be a part of his own real-life fairy tale and the couple married. Their love story sounds like the perfect plot for a romantic Hollywood movie and they soon found themselves directing a movie about her love story for the Hallmark Channel.
Fan Mail turns into love story for actor Willie Aames
Even though they have lived in married bliss for quite some time, they both still can’t believe how God destined them to be married. “It’s so much fun. We still sit across each other’s table and look at each other and say, ‘I can’t believe it’s you. It’s you,'” Winnie said.
Her love story proves that it’s never too late to find love, and it’s never too late to become the person God called you to be. After actor Willie Aames gave his life to Christ, he has never been the same. All thanks to God for bringing Winnie into his life. I, for one, can’t wait to see the movie based on her whirlwind romance that was full of ups and downs.
Willie said: “I have never been happier. I have never felt better about life and opportunity, and I don’t know what I would do without Winnie. That he was meant to be. Like I said, I met her when she had learned enough in my life not to be looking for something, so the most natural thing happened.”
“It’s never too late to find love,” said Winnie. In fact, it’s never too late to start over and start over. And it’s never too late to surrender to Christ and let Him surround you with family, comfort, and redeeming love.
