Queen Elizabeth’s Bodyguard Remembers Hilarious Story Of Her Meeting Two Americans On A Hike

Think again if you thought members of the Royal Family are not funny. Queen Elizabeth II, who ruled for 70 years, died on September 8 at the age of 96. Those who knew her well remember a side of her that was less known to the general public. Her bodyguard paid tribute to her memories and her wry sense of humor by recounting a story about a chance encounter she had with two Americans while she was hiking near her Scottish castle.

The queen met two hikers while out for a walk, and it was clear they had no idea who she was, according to the queen’s former security guard, Richard “Dick” Griffin. The elderly queen, who normally wears bright colors to public events to make herself more visible, chose to dress more casually that day, according to a recent article in The Mirror.

Her Majesty strolled the grounds of the Scottish estate while she was dressed in tweed and a headscarf. Richard Griffin reported to the Times at the time that the Queen occasionally wants to avoid the prying eyes of the public because she didn’t want to expose her cover.

earlier this year, at the Platinum Jubilee celebrations. The Queen always stopped and waved when she met people, Griffin recalled the story to Sky News. From the moment we stopped, it was obvious they hadn’t seen the Queen. The American man was describing to the Queen her origins, her next destination and her previous stops in Britain.

She said: “Well, I live in London but I have a holiday property on the other side of the hills”, when asked by one of the tourists where she lived. He also revealed to them that she had been visiting Balmoral Castle for over 80 years, ever since she was a little girl. She joked, “Well, I haven’t, but Dick here often meets her,” in response to the hiker’s question as to whether he had ever met Queen Elizabeth. The American traveler then asked Griffin, “I see you know the Queen.

What is she like?” Griffin made the decision to comply. She can be extremely curmudgeonly at times, but she has a beautiful sense of humor, I assured them, because I’ve been with her a long time and I knew I could make her laugh,” he declared. Americans then left absolutely oblivious to who they were talking to!
