The Bible Verse Fused To 9/11 Rubble Exposes An Important Message

God often sends signs in times of tragedy, we just have to look for them. First responders weren’t necessarily looking for a sign from God as they surveyed the destruction that followed the horrific terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. But that’s exactly what they discovered in a piece of Twin Towers rubble they found with a verse from the Bible merged with that. And the powerful message it contained is just as important today as it was then.

Hope found in devastation
While the 9/11 attack brought down the World Trade Center in a day, it took months to clean up the destruction left behind.

In March 2002, a cleanup crew was reviewing the last remains of the south tower. And it was there that a firefighter discovered a very special piece of debris!

He had found a Bible verse fused with a piece of debris. In shock, he called out to Joel Meyerowitz, who was nearby. Joel is a photographer who wrote the book “Aftermath: World Trade Center Archive”.

“This tattered, burned, debris-covered Bible came to me from the loving hands of a firefighter who knew I was the ground zero record keeper,” Joel said.

a powerful message
The page was from the Gospel of Matthew, in which Jesus gave His Sermon on the Mount and specifically addressed retaliation.

And considering the pain and anger we were all feeling after the 9/11 attacks, the words of that speech are particularly significant:
It is natural during times of attack to want to lash out, fight back, and get revenge. It’s something we were all feeling after that terrible day. But God warns us not to return evil for evil, but to leave revenge to Him. He calls us to move forward in love and forgiveness.

“My amazement at seeing the page the Bible was open to made me realize that the message of the Bible survives through time,” Joel continued, “and in every age we interpret its teachings freshly, as required. the occasion”.

Joel went on to donate the fragment to the National 9/11 Memorial Museum, where he continues to inspire today.

What an incredible find and what a powerful message directly from our loving God who was, is and always will be!
